Data Sources
Draft version · last updated 14 September 2026
In short: we use identified sources we are permitted to use, record where each piece of information came from, and correct it when shown to be wrong.
1.Sources we may use
Facility information may come from:
- provider submissions;
- provider websites;
- universities;
- research organisations;
- government and public bodies;
- open datasets;
- institutional publications;
- direct verification.
Each item is labelled with a source type: Provider verified, Official facility source, Public institutional source, Qapacity research, Customer report, Imported, Unknown.
2.Licences, database rights and copyright
Every imported source must respect applicable licences, database rights, terms of use and copyright. We do not indiscriminately scrape websites. Where a source’s terms do not permit our intended use, we do not use it, or we seek permission.
We generally record short factual summaries of capability rather than reproducing substantial parts of a source.
3.What we record
- source URL or reference;
- date accessed;
- permitted-use basis, where required;
- attribution requirement;
- update mechanism.
4.Personal data
We minimise personal information in facility datasets and prefer institutional contact information. We do not publish personal contact details of scientists merely because they appear somewhere publicly.
5.Corrections
Every facility page offers Suggest a correction, and providers may Claim this facility. Corrections move through these states, and the evidence and reason for each decision are preserved:
- Submitted
- Under review
- Accepted
- Partially accepted
- Rejected
- Superseded
6.Requests from rights holders
If you believe information on Qapacity has been used without permission or in breach of a licence, please tell us through the contact page, identifying the information and the right concerned. We will review and, where appropriate, remove or amend it.
7.Methodology
A plain-language explanation is available at How Qapacity sources infrastructure information.
